Anyone wishing to keep an animal listed in the Dangerous Wild Animals Act requires a Licence issued by the local authority. A list of those animals considered to be dangerous can be obtained from Environmental Health. The form should then be completed and returned, together with a copy of a valid insurance certificate covering liability for damage caused by the animals. On receipt a general acknowledgement letter will be sent. A veterinary surgeon will be requested by the Council to make an inspection of the premises and animals. On receipt of his/her report an Environmental Health Officer will make contact to organise a licence inspection of the premises. Providing both inspections confirm the premises meet all specified conditions, a licence will be granted and issued, together with a copy of the specified conditions and an invoice for the application fee of £105 plus veterinary costs. The conditions must be adhered to at all times. Licences are renewable annually on 1st January. To assist current licence holders a reminder letter and renewal form will be sent prior to that date.
